MAYHEM: 'Pure F**king Mayhem' Documentary To Be Shown At Finland's ROKUMENTTI

November 13, 2008

"Pure Fucking Mayhem" — an impressive account of the history of the legendary Norwegian black metal band MAYHEM, focusing on the years 1984-1993 with the group's tales of unrelenting, brutal black metal and bloody crimes — will be premiered at the Rokumentti rock film festival, which is being held November 13-16, 2008 in Joensuu, Finland. The screening will take place on Saturday, November 15 at 1:15 p.m. and will be followed by a question-and-answer session with director Stefan Rydehed. Also scheduled to be shown is "Light in Darkness - Nemesis Divina", a new black metal documentary which focuses not on the satanic spectra of the genre, but the opposite — the Christian concept of black metal.

"Pure Fucking Mayhem" is scheduled to be released on DVD in November via Index Verlag. The sequel to the acclaimed Norwegian/Swedish documentary "Cult of Aggression" includes exclusive interviews with, among others, Necro Butcher, Attila Csihar and Manheim, and attains a maximum of authenticity through the use of rich, often unreleased footage. As a bonus, the release also features an audio CD with eight tracks of calm and eerie piano music inspired by MAYHEM and other black metal classics.

"Pure Fucking Mayhem" was financed by the film's director, Stefan Rydehed, and was shown at film festivals around the globe.

The original film, "Cult of Aggression", was released in 2002 and received its world premiere in 2004 at the Oslo Filmfestival, where it was shown twice.

"The first documentary about MAYHEM, 'Cult of Aggression', was about their history — mainly about their music, but, of course, if a band has such a bloody history as MAYHEM, you can't [leave] that out of the documentary," Rydehed previously told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

"'Cult of Aggression' was mainly with Manheim and Necro Butcher but had a few parts about Dead when I used a voice-over and some folks who lived in Kråkstad when the band had their rehersal/livingplace there," Rydehed added.
